Section (A) Atomic and Molecular Structure: (Credits 2)
  1. Atomic Structure: The Hydrogen atom, atomic orbitals, variation theorem, He-atom, electron spin, Slater determinant, anti-symmetry rule and Pauli’s exclusion principle.
  2. Molecular Symmetry: Symmetry elements and operations, point groups, symmetry species of H2O molecule.
  3. Molecular Structure:Hydrogen molecule ion, LCAO- MO approach, molecular orbitals, diatomic MOs, VB approach, hybridization.

B.Sc. III Semester Practical: Quantitative Analysis (Physical and Volumetric)
  1. Critical solution temperature of two components system (phenol-water).
  2. Effect of impurity on critical solution temperature.
  3. Distribution of solute in two immiscible solvents (without association).
  4. Distribution of solute in two immiscible solvents (with association in one solvent).
  5. Determination of Surface Tension of liquids.
  6. Determination of viscosity coefficients of liquids.
  7. Complexometric titrations: magnesium and zinc with EDTA; Hardness of water.
  8. Determination of pH of a given buffer.
